Autism Spectrum Disorder 101

September 2, 2017

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities. Back in 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 1 in 150 children were identified to have ASD. Now, that figure has shot up to 1 in 68.
Individuals with ASD may have deficits in a number of developmental areas, including speech and communication, social skills, cognition, and motor skills. Other common signs of ASD are hand flapping, avoiding eye contact, and aggressive or self-injurious behaviors.
With more and more cases of autism being diagnosed each year, it’s important to stay informed on ASD. Below is an infographic created by Action Behavior Centers, including the most recent data on autism facts and statistics, scientific research findings, and information on treatment with ABA (applied behavior analysis) therapy.
