Alcohol Use Disorder Statistics

Do you know that around 88,000 people die every year due to alcohol-related causes? Alcohol is among the most abused addictive substances. Unfortunately, excessive alcohol consumption leads to AUD, which can lead to death. In 2018 alone, around 14.4 adults were suffering from alcohol use disorder in the United States. In the past year, only about 8% of the individuals with AUD received treatment.
While people describe alcohol use disorder as dangerous and unhealthy drinking habits, the addiction’s effect on a person’s life defines the real issue. Essentially, alcohol affects the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and immune system. And if a person continues drinking excessively and for a long time, the results can be fatal.
Unfortunately, some people see alcohol consumption as a usual way of life. And this leads to AUD, health problems, and eventual death in some cases. For this reason, the Addiction Resource came up with this infographic to raise awareness of the AUD problem in American society. This infographic simplifies information about alcohol abuse disorder, making it easier to comprehend.
When people read this information, they can change their drinking habits. Others can convince their loved ones to quit drinking. And this will save lives that society would lose to AUD.
