There will be more number of older adults in the coming decades than ever before who might develop Alzheimer’s or dementia. This is the reason Alzheimer’s care experts and centers are becoming the primary focus when it comes to enhancing the quality of lives of aging adults. According to statistics, the ratio of seniors with Alzheimer’s or related disease is too much high. Here are a few facts about Alzheimer’s disease you should know about.

Up to 6 million seniors in the US have Alzheimer’s who are 65 years old and above. Some seniors experience the early onset of Alzheimer’s if they neglect their mental health and wellbeing. Every one out of 10 aging adults has Alzheimer’s or some form of dementia. There is more number of senior women with Alzheimer’s than men because women can be more likely to ignore the doctor’s appointments, take necessary medications on time, and choose unhealthy foods. By 2050, the population of seniors with Alzheimer’s will be soaring high as the figure of aging adults over 65 enhances.

Alzheimer’s is common among seniors and is considered the 5th leading cause of death and the primary cause of disability and deteriorating health. Family caregivers have provided more than 18 billion hours of unpaid, in-home assistance to their senior loved one. Female caregivers outnumber male caregivers with a ratio of 2 to 1. The total expenditure on Alzheimer’s care and other age-related diseases amounts to $260 billion in 2017. However, Medicaid and Medicare can easily cover 67% of the entire healthcare and care payments in the long run.
