Report: A tenth of Brits report feeling unwell after consuming food from social media chefs

During the height of lockdown #3 in the UK, Oliver’s Kitchen commissioned a study of 5,000 people to look into just how many people were using online social media chefs, and the dangers associated in consuming food from unregulated food sources.
The study found that 10% of brits reported feeling unwell having consumed takeaway food from social media chefs. 79% of Brits had ordered from online social media chefs during lockdown. 34% reported that they were worried about the appearance and smell of the food when it arrived.
The most popular dish ordered was pizza (51%), followed by roast dinners (38%) and finally Indian (21%). The findings highlighted the large amount of unregulated chefs that had emerged during lockdown. In the UK, chefs must be registered with their local authority, a food hygiene course is mandatory as well as regular, unscheduled surprise inspections. Facebook was cited as the number one place to order food from.
