E- Waste Recycling Methods

Unfortunately, e-waste has become a large problem as consumers continue to upgrade their devices for the most up-to-date models. When it comes to recycling your electronic devices and appliances, there are several methods that can help extract toxic materials. When there is a lot of electronic waste, you may visit website and find the closest facility that provides e-waste collection for recycling.

The type of process used largely depends on the type of materials that the items have inside. Pyrolysis is a way of recycling synthetic polymers. This includes polymers that are mixed with glass fibers. During the recycling process, the printed circuit boards are heated to a high temperature, which causes the solder to meltdown and binds the electric elements to the board.

A blackish metal substance is left behind and this is where the toxic materials can be found. Another way to separate the toxic materials in the e-recycling process involves using organic solvents such as Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO). The DMSO is stirred in and vapored under decompression with nitrogen.
Then the mixture is cooled to room temperature and the materials separated. Air classification separates materials based on size and density. It works by getting particles suspended in the gas to move to different sections by using different forces. In this process, heavy particles move down and lighter particles move up.

Electrostatic separation method uses electric force that is charged on polarized bodies. This is an ideal method for plastics and metals.
