The United States has never been more linguistically or culturally diverse. Contributing factors to language access needs may include new immigration trends, limited-English-proficiency, and foreign-born populations. The United States Census Bureau reports over 350 languages spoken in U.S. homes, and 1 in 5 U.S. residents now speaks a foreign language at home. Foreign Language Diversity: Languages Spoken in U.S. Homes infographic serves as a snapshot of languages spoken in U.S. homes with over 100,000 speakers, as well defining the needs and trends of language interpretation in the United States today.
