Foreign Language Diversity: Languages Spoken in U.S. Homes

The United States has never been more linguistically or culturally diverse. Contributing factors to language access needs may include new immigration trends, limited-English-proficiency, and foreign-born populations. The United States Census Bureau reports over 350 languages spoken in U.S. homes, and 1 in 5 U.S. residents now speaks a foreign language at home. Foreign Language Diversity: Languages Spoken in U.S. Homes infographic serves as a snapshot of languages spoken in U.S. homes with over 100,000 speakers, as well defining the needs and trends of language interpretation in the United States today. From education to government language access programs, cultural barriers and language barriers that once kept people from efficient and accurate communication are made possible by the use of new interpretation technology, and qualified interpreters and translators nationwide.
