Ireland’s Christmas Safety Mistakes

Zurich Insurance recently carried out research on the Christmas safety behaviors of Irish citizens, we were blown away by the neglect in so many homes. Discovering interesting statistics such as, almost 22% or 1 in 5 people leave their Christmas tree lights plugged in overnight. Over 50% of respondents hang Christmas cards over their open fire in their living rooms, also identified was 10% of families leave candles lit when leaving the house over Christmas, that’s 1 in 10! Zurich Insurance Director Kevin McCarthy wants to raise the awareness with Irish homeowners of the risks involved and what should be done to prevent accidents happening around the home over the yuletide period.
Some of the potential tips being offered by Zurich include, upgrading your light bulbs from the old style to LED bulbs. Do not leave Christmas tree lights or candles lit around the home when leaving, despite it looking pretty, you may come home to no home. Putting your Christmas tree into a water base not only keeps it moist, reducing the risk of it catching fire, but it also helps it to stay alive longer. Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
