Language in numbers

It is not an easy task to determine the most spoken languages in the world. Why?
Even though you probably assume that you will see English, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic in the top ten, there are several issues to consider when ranking top languages:
Native vs. non- native speakers.
Some researchers believe that spoken languages should be ranked only by the number of native speakers. Others state that both native and non-native speakers should be included in the statistics.
Languages vs. dialects.
Another issue that doesn’t have an easy answer is how to differentiate between a dialect and a language. For example, Hindi is a term that covers dozens of dialects. Despite these complications, we’ve made a simple infographic that shows the top 10 most spoken languages in the world. The infographic includes the number of language speakers and countries that use these languages. Check it out below!”
