The Irish at The Oscars

While a lot of people are no doubt aware that Irish films and actors could potentially walk away with a grand total of six Academy Awards this year, not everybody knows just how intertwined the history of the Oscars is associated with the Irish people.
Those fabled golden statues were in fact designed by renowned Irish set designer Cedric Gibbons who, incidentally, won no less than eleven Oscars himself for his work on various films. Only Walt Disney has more individual Academy Awards than Mr Gibbons.
Ireland can also boast the only actor to win three Best Actor in a Leading role awards as well as the only person ever to have won both an Oscar and a Nobel Prize. Who are these people? The answer to that question, along with lots of other interesting facts, can be found in the “Irish at the Oscars” infographic.
