What is a “good” eCommerce conversion rate?

January 23, 2020

Conversion rate optimization is one of the most effective ways to increase sales on your website.
Think about it – if you have 10,000 visitors to your website, a 1% conversion rate means you have 100 sales. However, if you can get this metric to 2%, you’ve immediately doubled your sales.
The thing that’s tricky with conversion rate optimization is that there are lots of variables involved. Overall, the average eCommerce conversion rate is around 2-3%. However, when we look at average conversion rates by device, for example, desktop converts at 3.8%, while smartphones only convert at 1.8%. That’s a massive difference.
It’s clear that conversion rate optimization is dependant on a number of variables. To determine what your conversion rate should be for your particular business, check out some of the statistics in the infographic below.
