What Is Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye surgery is the process of reshaping the cornea of the eye so that light enters the eye and lands on the retina. To reshape the cornea surgeon makes use of surgical instruments or lasers. There are two options to reshape the cornea either by cutting it or making a flap.
Laser eye surgery has a high success rate, which resulted in over 95% cases of improved vision in patients. Correcting the way light focuses on the retina is the main objective of laser eye surgery. In other eye treatments, a lens is placed in front of the eye to diverge or converge the rays of light which is not the case in laser eye surgery.
A computerized laser which is in the wavelength of UV light is used for laser eye surgery to carry out the process within few minutes. Because of this, a patient wouldn’t notice the laser treating the corneal tissue. In near-sightedness which is caused by a steep cornea, the laser is used to flatten out the cornea. While in far-sightedness which is caused by a flat cornea, the laser will steepen out the cornea.
